Decision:
July 29, 1883 - April 28, 1945
"Let us have a dagger between our teeth, a bomb in our hands, and an infinite scorn in our hearts."
talians had been governed by a fascist regime under Benito Mussolini since 1925. Benito Mussolini, is known as a great leader and youngest Prime Minister to the Italian country. He helped save and rebuild the Italian nation.
When WWII took place in 1939 Mussolini was strongly influenced by Hitler and soon allied with Germany. The Pact of Steel Treaty was signed. Later Germany, Italy, and Japan signed the Tripartite Pact, which became known as the Axis alliance.
Mussolini informed King Vittorio Emanuele III of Italy that they would soon be involved in the European War. He prepared 200,000 soldiers. Mussolini decided to invade Greece, but his army was beaten harshly and had to be backed up by German troops. In 1941, he sent 200,000 of his soldiers to help with Hitlers plan invasion of the Soviet union. The bad winter and Soviet guerrilla fighters killed a vast amount of German and Italian soldiers. Mussolini was restrained with a dept of 20,000 USD. He implemented taxes in the country and increased the cost of products, to pay this dept immediately.
Originally an Italian innovation were the submarines, that could reach distances of 1,200 miles, dive to a depth of 300 feet, and travel at a speed of 6 knots. They used this machine for major attacks. It was positioned close to the targeted place and well equipped ready to launch the attack.
In July 1942, Mussolini decided to send mountain troops aid the Germans fighting in Russia. Early in 1943, ten divisions of the “Italian Army in Russia” were defeated in the Battle of Stalingrad. Even after the fascist government requested Mussolini to surrender, more battles were fought. As a response to Italy’s participation in WW2, the allies sent raids over The Royal Palace of Milan, the Teatro Lirico, Basilica of San Lorenzo and the Abadi of Montecassino.
By 1940, Mussolini had over 1 million troops in his army and formed a free standing independent nation. Mussolini was beginning to produce results, as Italy was becoming a superpower, similar to that of his dream; to make Italy a major power and revive the Roman Empire.
In conclusion Mussolini is considered a great leader for Italy. Mussolini proved that Fascism worked by building strong decisions. The country Italy could became steady and strong. Mussolini was able to rebuild Italy by creating jobs and offering the best for the Italian nation. "Whatever his failures as a national leader, Mussolini appeared to be a shining example of Fascist strength when compared to the more timid democracies in Europe, and was a hero to other aspiring Fascist leaders of the day. Among these was a struggling German politician by the name of Adolph Hitler." (Flow of History). Being dragged into Hitlers commands Mussolini's ideas of fascism changed. Mussolini’s need for power made him decide to follow paths that would lead him to quick personal gains and not for Italian people and relied on the Germans and their power, this is why he was considered a Nazis puppet from then on.
